We love to know about mysterious things, about mysterious places and about mysterious events. There are somethings in world, which logic cannot answer and science fail to give the exact reason or it may be the possibility that we have yet not discovered the truth. But whenever such things happen, we term it as mysterious. It excites us and also fills us with awe and wonder.
India is famous as land of wonder, beauty and rich spirituality but there is also mysterious side of India. There are some places in India which are famous for its unusual mystery and happenings
Let’s discuss about such mysterious places and events that happens in India and that always filled people with wonder and curiosity.
Lets explore about few such mysterious places of India.
Karni Mata Mandir
Karni mata temple is a famous temple dedicated to Karni mata at Deshnoke, 30 km from Bikaner in Rajasthan. It is popular among devotees as temple of rats.
Mystery
This Temple is abode of approximately 25,000 black rats.They are greatly respected by all devotees who visit here. These holy rats are called Kabbas. It is said that once Karni Mata’s stepson was drowned in Kapil Sarovar while he was trying to drink water from river. Then Karni mata asked Yama to bring back his son, Yama first refused but finally agreed permitting Laxman and all Karni mata‘s sons to be reincarnated as rats. It is also believed that rats will incarnate as sages or Sadhus in next birth. Karni Mata is believed to be the incarnation of Goddess Durga. Food nibbled by rats is treated with great honor. If any rat is killed then one has to replace it with a statue of rat made of silver. People come from all over India to take blessings of Karni mata and holy rats. So on my list I believe that Karni mata mandir is one of the most mysterious place in India.
Padmanabhaswamy Temple
Shree Padmanabhaswamy temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu located in Thiruvanthapuram, India. The principal deity, Padmanabhaswamy is enshrined in the “Anantha sayanam “ posture (In the eternal sleep of Yoganidra on the serpent Anantha). It is regarded as one of the richest temple in the world with lots of gold, diamonds and other precious jewels and metals. It was also named as “The Golden Temple”. The temple and its assets belong to Lord Padmanabhaswamy and for a long time controlled by a trust, headed by Travancore royal family. Padmanabhaswamy temple is regarded as the wealthiest place of worship in the world. The value of the monumental items is close to 1.2 lakh crores.
Mystery
Padmanabhaswamy Temple has 6 chambers where all the valuable assets are there. They are named as A,B,C,D,E,F for book keeping purpose. Government opened these vaults and it contained diamond jewellery, golden utensils, weapons, necklaces and other precious items. While the other vaults A,C,D,E,F are opened time to time. People are not able to open the vault B which is also considered as main vault. This vault is considered as highly sacred, mysterious by Indian astrologers, saints, learned man and also Trust members. It is considered to have Naga bandham or Nagapaasam mantras by saints of that age.
It is said that saints, who are master in extricating “Naga bandham” by chanting “Garuda mantram” can only open it. If any other than these human efforts are made than catastrophes are likely to occur throughout India. The vault B door has two big portraits of cobras in it. It is made of steel with no bolts, nuts or even latches. There were another incident which occurred in 1931, people tried to open the cobra gates of the temple but were faced by millions of cobras and snakes of shrimp variety. They were chased for life. It was mentioned in book “Guide to Travancore 1931”. Weather God did not want this secret chamber to be opened? is it protected by divine snakes ?and what assets belongs to secret chamber B ?is still a big mystery to the human mind.

Magnetic Hill Ladakh
Ladakh – Ladakh or land of high passes is a beautiful region in the North Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. It has Tibet in the East, Lahaul and Spiti to its South and Kashmir valley to the West.

The most mysterious thing in Ladakh is small stretch of road which is located about 30 Kms from Leh towards Kargil and it is famous for its magnetic properties. Here you can see the road going uphill. If you stop your car engine, it will slowly start moving automatically up at a speed of about 20 km/hour. Sounds Mysterious isn’t it ? So next time if you plan a trip to Leh ladakh do try out this mysterious thing
Kodinhi ,Kerala
Kodinhi is a small village in Kerala .The extraordinary thing about this place is large number of twins you will witness here.
Mystery
Kodinhi, is also called as village of twins. Almost everybody as there doubles. Seems like a bollywood script but it’s a real fact. It has currently 200 pair of twins and two sets of triplets.The women who gets married outside also ends up having twins or triplets, how cute and unusual.
Vittala Temple, Hampi, Karnataka
The Vittala temple or Vitthala temple in Hampi is famous for its magnificent and beautiful architecture. It is located near Tungabhadra River and considered as one of the largest building in Hampi. This is the real testimony of authentic Hindu art.
Mystery
The Vijaya Vittala Temple in Hampi has 56 musical pillars also known as SaRiGaMa pillars. The pillars produce musical tones when struck with a thumb. It sounds like ringing bells. It has beautiful pillared halls and the stone chariot. People from all over the world come here to take the blessings of God and witness the awesome architecture of Temple, really the brilliant and unusual piece of manmade art.
Hanging pillar at Lepakshi
Lepakshi temple is located in the small historical village of Lepakshi in the Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh India. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is famous for its marvelous and beautiful sculptures of Gods ,Goddesses and excellent paintings.
Mystery
Among the 70 pillars of the Temple, one is hanging in mid air without any support. Devotees come to the temple and pass objects under the pillar, believing it to be divine and will bring good luck. So for me again this place was among most mysterious places in India

Levitating Stone at Shivapur, Maharashtra
The Hazrat Qamar Ali Darvesh Shrine is very sacred Shrine. It is also listed among Magical places of India because of one special rock which weighs 70 kgs and can only lifted by one means.
Mystery
We need 11 people to gather around this rock, they have to touch it with their forefingers and loudly call out the name of the saint who placed a curse on it, after that stone rises up in the air mysteriously. It is said that Sufi saint called Qamar Ali placed a curse on this stone being used for body building about 800 years ago
Houses without doors of Shani Shingnapur
Shani Shingnapur is a small village located 35 km away from Ahmednagar. It has famous and mysterious Shani Temple. Most mysterious thing about this village is, the houses, schools and commercial buildings of village don’t have any doors or even a door frame. Also, not a single crime ever happened here. Villagers have strong faith in God Shani and believe that Shani God is reason for not happening any crimes in village.
Eternal flames of Jwalaji Temple
Jwalaji is Hindu temple located in lower Himalayan town of Jwalamukhi in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. It is dedicated to Hindu Goddess Jwala. Temple does not have any image of Goddess but a constantly burning blue flame. This flame is burning endlessly for over 100 years and nobody is able to find the exact reason for this eternal burning flame. Some say that these flames arise due to the volcanic activity of the mountain behind but still no one is able to prove it.
It is said that once Akbar visited this place and was not able to convince himself with the logic which local people gave, hence it is said that he diverted the water fountain to extinguish the flames but he failed to do so and finally he was convinced that there was some eternal power residing in the flames. He then donated one gold chattara to the temple. This temple has always been among the most mysterious places I have ever visited in India.

Chilkur Balaji Temple ,Hyderabad
Chilkur Balaji temple is located in beautiful village called Chilkur, 30 kilometers from Hyderabad. This temple is also mysteriously known as “Visa Balaji temple”. This temple is famous for fulfilling the wishes of devotees to get visa to go overseas. It is also one of the rare temple without any Hundi or donation box. It has excellent architecture which is very pleasing and is also known as one of the oldest temples of Telengana. No monetary donations are accepted here, only coconuts and floral garlands can be given. It is said that whenever any devotee ask any wish to God, it is fulfilled by god. During a visit the devotees goes through the usual rituals of prayer, including 11 circumambulations of the inner shrine and makes a vow. Once the wish is fulfilled devotees than walk 108 times around the sanctum sanctorum. I have personally visited this temple on my last visit to Hyderabad. The best way to reach Chilkur Balaji is to rent a bike from Hyderabad and ride till the temple.
So this was the list of most unique and mysterious places around India which I have visited in past few years. The mysteries of India can never be contained in an article but still I tried to share few facts which I came to know when I visited these places.
