Kheerganga is situated at an altitude of 2960m from sea level binding some picturesque beauty of the Himalayas. 12km trek to kheerganga falls under the easy category of difficulty level, half of which is normal walk till Rudranaag and another half is mild climb, covered with pine trees which soon open to the meadows of kheerganga. I have written number of articles on parvati valley and today in this article I will tell about the most essential things you need to carry while traveling to Kheerganga.
When traveling to Himalayas especially if you are planning for trekking in parvati valley especially Kheerganga then there are few essential things that you should never skip on your trip.
Things to carry to Kheerganga
Tent
Kheerganga in Parvati valley is a trek which I think is incomplete without camping. Normally after reaching Kheerganga you can get plenty of option of staying where you get already setup camps for 150Rs per person for a night but that is never my cup of tea. So whenever I plan a trip to Parvati valley I always bring my tent along for camping wherever I like. The tent can be 2 men or 3+1 depending upon the number of people you are traveling with. I personally use Quechua Arpenaz 3+1 and believe me guys its been 2 years I am using it and its still the same.
Camera/DSLR
Camera is one of the most essential things that you need to carry with yourself. Kheerganga is considered as one of the most beautiful trek in India hence it becomes very important to carry a good camera. If you are a professional photographer and coming to Kheerganga for a trekking experience then I must remind you that you are visiting the place which is also called as Heaven for the Photographers. If you have a good mobile phone that would also be enough to click some mind boggling pictures. If you ask me personally which camera I use for photography then it’s always the canon 1300d because its in budget and gives great details.
Backpack is must for Kheerganga
If you are traveling to Kheerganga or villages around Kasol then one thing which becomes must carry is the backpack. You can carry other bags also but if you really want to make the best use of your time and want to be comfortable with what you are carrying then you should always carry a backpack. When I travel to Parvati valley the bag which I consider for Backpacking is always Wildcraft 42 Ltrs Grey Casual Backpack.

Quechua Boots
One of the most lovable items for me while I am on trekking are the Quechua products. Whenever I visit Kheerganga for any assignment, the first and last things that I make sure to carry are the Quechua boots and the jackets. As you know that Parvati valley is all about trekking and exploring the raw vicinity of nature at its best so it becomes really very important to carry some good trekking equipment. By trekking equipment I simply mean a good pair of boots and a jacket that could keep me warm enough. I personally use QUECHUA ARPENAZ 50 MEN’S WALKING BOOTS so I would recommend everybody to go for these boots if you are looking to hit some good treks like Kheerganga.
For jackets I just use any one which would keep me warm enough in the cold winters of the valley. Clothing items totally depend on what time of year you are traveling to Kasol. If you are traveling to Kasol during the months of November – February then Jackets are must and if you travel during May and June then its not that essential. But still if you are planning to visit the place during the winters then I would recommend you to go with Quechua forclaz fleece jacket because its been years since I am wearing this for my Himalayan odesseys especially for Kheerganga.
Swiss Knife
Swiss Knife. I have a Victorinox Huntsman Red Swiss Army Knife which I have been using since 6-7 years. It has helped in many situations in mountains and still work as new. One of the best products I have bought in life. Carrying a Swiss knife was something which I learned from Discovery channel and believe me guys it was also one of the most important things I learned. When ever you plan to visit Kheerganga or Kasol this should always be your companion and hence I would I highly recommend it for your most essential things to carry to Kasol.
Selfie stick
Some might be thinking that what non serious thing I am talking about but believe me guys its one of the most important thing to carry. I remember my last trip to Kheerganga. I had everything from DSLR to I phone but the only thing which I did’nt posses was the selfie stick. At some places it was far too difficult for me to click a photograph but still I managed with camera. At that very moment I thought that selfie stick is a must carry thing if you are planning a trip to Kheerganga or parvati valley. Some people often go with the cheap selfie sticks but that is never my cup of tea. I own Zaap Nustar4 extendable aluminum selfie stick.

water bottles
Fresh water is in abundance in Kheerganga and in the surrounding villages but i will still recommend you to have a water bottle. Water bottle can be a simple Maaza bottle.
Power bank
Mobiles are similar to our heart beat and to keep our hear beat alive we need a power bank. Last year when I planned a trek to Kheerganga I just missed one thing and that was the extra or spare battery for the trek. Sometimes getting a spare battery is difficult task so I would recommend everyone that if you are planning a trip to Kasol or Kheerganga then Power bank should always be on your list of essential things to carry before traveling to Kheerganga. I personally use portronics Por 64 – 10000 Mah power bank.
Please follow these things while traveling to Kheerganga
– Manage your waste well and don’t litter
– Use dustbins wherever necessary
– Avoid plastic bottles in hills. Usually you get clean water in hills and water bottles create a lot of mess in our ecosystem.
