1. DAGSHAI: A LOST TALE

Dagshai located 11km away from Solan town and is near to NH 22. The old town situated in pines with very few tourists helps you gather the peace of hills and breeze of fresh air to your lungs. The town was named as “Duug – E – Shahi” which means anti-social now stated to as Dagshai. It is told by historians that Mughal sed this place to punish criminals and later the area was a British cantonment town.

There is a famous jail built by the British and the prisoners were tortured and punished very brutally it is commonly known that there was a punishing area near the graveyard where criminals were painfully punished and during the night we can still hear the scary voices of those people. The graveyards are still in work and during night paranormal activities are observed in graveyards also it is the most common locally experienced story that you may also hear the voice of falling droplets near the graveyard and this is blood droplets and if the night is more unfortunate to you, you may see bloodstains in these graveyards.

The jail is turned into a museum now where people were hanged and killed. Till now people claim to see ghost roaming in the jail and also haunt this place.

Far from the town, the place gives a Moorish feeling to the visitors but it does not end here these darker woods have another dark story to reveal. There is a famous story of British majors wife Mary Rebeca Weston who was blessed with by a Muslim saint but unfortunately, she died when she was 8 months pregnant, there was a notion during that time if the grave will be cut it will give rise to the birth of a baby. So the cemented grave was slash by people so bitterly that the grave was about to break. Then Mary’s ghost scared people to not to come closer to the grave to protect her grave from this indecent activity. So, I suggest you dare and visit this place for thrillers experience of this 169 old cantonment town.

2. Old fort Kangra: Story of Queen turning conjurer.

Yes, you heard me right this is the story of old Kangra fort also known as Nurpur fort situated on Pathankot- Nurpur highway. This fort is the most treasured antiquity of ancient India and was previously known as Dhameri fort. In 1672Mughal Emperor, Jahangir renamed it as Nurpur fort after his beloved wife Noorjhan Jahangir. It is said that this is surrounded by a very old tree at the day time no paranormal activities are observed. The birds’ chirp on the trees monkeys are playing and the old stones sun-basking. But just after the sunset the doors of this forts are closed and no visitors are allowed to visit it. There is a very beautiful scenic view from this fort. Inside the fort, there is swimming where Nurjhan uses to take bath now it is not in a very good condition filled with mud.

Nurpur fort is not the only last relic of the glorious past of Kangra but it also reminds of mythical dancer Noori whose names are an imitation of Noorjhan. Noori was said to be more beautiful than Noorjhan and she was also gifted with a beautiful voice. She was profoundly skilled with the art of dance. Noorjhan was insecure with her beauty and talents she was scared that she could attract more fame than legendary Noorjhan so she never allowed her to venture outside the palace. When Noori used to dance, the echo of her anklets inside the palace kept the people around spellbound and mesmerized.

The old folk anecdotes tell us that there was a great fear to Noorjhan from Noori’s beauty and voice this feeling of envy made Noorjhan take a conjurer step when once she found Noori seducing Jahangir from her beauty. This feeling of envy lead to Noorjhan took a devastating step she slashed Noori’s tongue off and the music is the fort was silenced forever. This incident also leads to confrontation between Noorjhan and Jahangir relationship forever and left the fort deserted and destroyed the peace of the fort. This leads to Noori’s spirit stuck in the fort and locals can still hear her screaming during the night and even the sound of her anklets. So, you must dare on your own to have this spooky experience.
