Himachal Pradesh is located in the north of India. The area is absolutely beautiful and nestled into the Himalayas. Many people that want to do some hiking or trekking internationally head to this area because of how beautiful many of the trek are. There are harder treks and easier ones with a range of time that each take. We’ve gotten easier hikes for you to try if you’re heading out to Himachal Pradesh for the first time. Make sure to bring some sort of hiking GPS with you; you don’t want to get lost out there.
Jalsu Pass Trek
We’re beginning with this trek because it’s a well-known and easy trek to many hikers in the area. The trail is roughly 40 kilometers which may make it a little more difficult for some people. The trail is best hiked from late July to early September. The trek contains spectacular views of two different valleys. You will certainly appreciate the view, even if the hike is a little bit long.

This trek is actually three smaller treks in one. You don’t have to attempt all three at once, but we’re presenting the whole trek so that you can decide what you want to do. The trek with all three legs is roughly 100 kilometers. Take your time doing this kind of trek if you want to do all three of the sections. This trail is great during July through September. The reason why we include this trek on the list is because of the amazing views that you will see along the way. These are the kinds of views that you come to Himachal Pradesh for, so don’t skip the entirety of this trail. Pick a section you like most and focus on getting that hike in.
Triund Hill Trail
This trek is one of the shortest, even though there are several different ways that you can go. Because the trail is so short, this hike is great for a one day trip. This trip is best done during August and September, but you can also do it during March if you want to see snow. You’ll be able to see now only great sights, but also tons of wildlife while you’re making your way to Triund Hill.
Indrahar Pass Trek
This particular trail is spectacular when you get a glimpse of the mountains all around you. While you will be going quite a bit up in elevation, the views are worth the time. This particular journey can take 5 or 6 days to complete, but it’s worth the time out of your trip to get up there and see this view. You’ll want to make this trip during mid-May to October. That gives you plenty of time to work in this trip.
Jalori Pass Trek
This hike is relatively short. Assuming that you start your hike on the pass, you’ll find that the trail to the lake is only 6 kilometers one way. You can make this trek a little longer if you decide to start elsewhere, but it’s a beautiful sight. The views from the pass all the way to the lake are breathtaking and you’ll love the hike. You’ll want to attempt this between May and June, as well as September and October.
Hatu Peak Trek
Although this trail is only 14 kilometers, you will want a local guide with you on this particular hike. The area for this hike is home to some bears. This doesn’t mean that you should avoid this particular trek as bears are found all over Himachal Pradesh, but that you should take a little bit of caution. However, this hike is in a beautiful area. From Hatu Peak, you will find a temple and a beautiful valley past that. While the main hike isn’t that long, you can make this trek a little bit longer.
Kareri Lake Trek
Kareri Lake is a glacial lake on a trail that is perfect for a couple days. The trip is 36 kilometers for a round trip. Along this trail is a temple that has a festival during August and September, if you want to make your trip a little more interesting. The best months are June, September, and October for this trek. You can’t go before June because of glacial formations along the path. If you want a longer trail in the future, Kareri Lake is the beginning of two different trails that go over nearby passes.
Beas Kund Trek
Even though the Beas Kund trail is a rather long trek, it is a well known one. This means that path is well worn and you won’t struggle through it. This trail is covered in snow in the winter, but you can hike it from mid-May to October. The trail is only 12 kilometers, but you’ll spend a lot of time on this trail. There’s plenty of things to see from the general view of the river that you will walk past. Take your time on this hike and enjoy your time in a beautiful area.
Kheer Ganga Trek
This trail is rather long at 23 kilometers, but that doesn’t mean that it’s difficult. This is the perfect trail for someone that has a lot of time on their hands and wants to spend a little bit of time relaxing. At the end of this hike, you will find yourself at some hot springs. The time of year to try this hike is a little bit short, just between July and August. However, it could be well worth the trouble.

Bhrigu Lake Trek
This trek is 29 kilometers, but it’s a very easy hike. You won’t be spending a lot of time climbing up and down steep and will be able to really move quickly through the area. However, even though you can move fast, you should take your time to admire the natural views that you will see. There are lots of forests and a beautiful lake to admire along the way. You will have time to attempt this trail between mid-May and November. You will want to avoid this trail during the monsoon season.

I particularly like the Beas Kund and Jalori Pass trails. They’ve got great views and aren’t that long or difficult. If I wanted a longer trail, then I think I would like to try Bhrigu Lake trail. Regardless of what I like, you’ll be able to find one that will work well with your schedule.
