Manali winter Carnival is one of the most awaited event in the Kullu valley. The seventh national level carnival gets underway from 2nd january 2018.

Manali winter carnival has long story it all started in 1977 and the idea was of Harnam Singh, the founder of WHMI (Institute of Mountaineering and Allied sports).
The basic concept of Manali winter carnival is to showcase the various cultural events performed by the student teams or non student teams not only from Himachal Pradesh but also across the country. These all cultural events are organized at the Manu rang Shala.
The Intial face of the carnival was little different during the period of 1985 to 1992 the carnival was conducted by Manu Kala kendra which was the youth club at that time. But later in 1993 members of the Manu Kala kendra came up together with Trios Mumbai and continued the Winter carnival Manali by organizing various cultural competitions in the valley.
With time the carnival became very famous and even earned the status of state level function. After this it was added as one of the most important event in the cultural calendar of Himachal. It was done by former chief minsiter P.K Dhumal, while inaugurating the carnival in 2010.

Now the winter carnival has become a major attraction for the tourist coming from various states. Now the carnival also showcases the form of Himachali food festival, craft Bazaar, folk dances, plays etc.

A winter queen and man’s personality contests apart from display of local culture of Himachal will be main features of the Manali Carnival 2018.

The SDM, Manali and vice president of Winter carnival HR Bairwa also plans to promote tourism during the time of winter carnival. Various travel agents are motivated to do so in order to boost tourism in Manali during this time. Various plans are also prepared where tourists can directky participate in the carnival by converting the Mall road into an area of carnival activities.

Apart from this, women, dressed up in traditional attire, will take part in a fashion show and folk dance to promote local culture. Singing and dance competitions will be held. To ensure the active involvement of women in sports and entertainment for the tourist, a tug-of-war competition will be held.
